Notes From The Intern: My First Few Days In The SEM Industry
Posted by: admin
Monday marked the start of something new for me. Monday marked the start of the time I get to be a Digital Marketing Intern with Formic Media. Four months ago, I received an email from one of my teachers informing students about an opportunity that they all had to apply to be an intern this summer through the Cascade Academy Foundation (CAF) Summer Internship Program. CAF has a partnership with many different local businesses and was interviewing students so they could successfully match them up with internships. Realizing what a great opportunity this was, I quickly got all of the information about the internship and applied. To my surprise, I was the only student who realized what a great opportunity this was and applied from my school. So, sure enough, I was selected to be a summer intern. Little did I know I would have the opportunity to work with Formic Media, a company that I share many of the same interests with.
To be completely honest I had no idea what to expect coming into this internship. Would I be making copies and getting people coffee or helping to develop full scale marketing campaigns? All I knew was that I looked forward to all that I was going to be able to do throughout the next two weeks. Monday was officially my first day and I already learned many new things not only about Formic Media, but also about how search engine marketing (SEM) really works. Although I realize that I have only scratched the surface of what SEM is really about and how to fully utilize it to a business’s advantage, I also know that I will have the opportunity to learn all about search engine marketing and many more marketing strategies.
By my second day I was off and running! I created social media updates for some of Formic’s many social media pages and was excited to get the opportunity to truly be helping out. I really enjoyed seeing the posts that I had written go live up on the different web pages and started to look for ways to make those posts more interesting so they would reach a broader audience. I am looking forward to the next two weeks that I am going to be at Formic Media and know that I am going to enjoy working with this dynamic group of individuals.
